In a country characterized by deep-rooted superstition and poverty, we are committed to end the violence against children and protect their rights.<\/p>\n<p>Benin, located in West Africa, has a low education rate and a low level of education among its more than 10 million residents. Religion and deep-rooted superstition, especially in the north and the border areas of Nigeria, lead to widespread violence against children and disregard for their rights. Children whose family members get ill or who pass away, as well as parents who leave the family, are blamed for the misfortune. As \"witch children\", they are locked up, chained, starved, tortured and abandoned to the streets to take care of themselves. The education and care center aims to strengthen children's rights and raise awareness, particularly about stigmatized \"witch children\".<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div><div class=\"et_d4_element et_pb_row et_pb_row_6  et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode et_block_row\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_d4_element et_pb_column_1_2 et_pb_column et_pb_column_7  et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode et_block_column\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_module et_d4_element et_pb_text et_pb_text_6  et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\"><p>Awareness-raising campaigns in the surrounding 46 communities, 92 health centers and 50 schools are intended to help improve the situation in the long term and to clear up the superstition.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to an education and care center financed by the PATRIZIA Foundation, a safe place for affected children will be built. Together with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Sternstunden e.V. and the established partners Franziskaner Helfen and Franciscains-B\u00e9nin, the center will take care of the children until they can be integrated into foster families.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div><div class=\"et_d4_element et_pb_column_1_2 et_pb_column et_pb_column_8 awareness-raising activities in the conference rooms and will look after around 110 children there each year, of which around 50 will be accommodated there.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div><div class=\"et_d4_element et_pb_row et_pb_row_12  et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode et_block_row\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"et_d4_element et_pb_column_1_2 et_pb_column et_pb_column_15  et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode et_block_column\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<div income from a guest house with a multifunctional room will cover a large part of the running costs. Construction work started in 2023 to complete the first construction phase before the rainy season. Together with our partners, we are planning to build living quarters on the site of the education center for up to 50 places, 30 of which will be for long-term care of children between the ages of 2 and 7 and 20 for short-term accommodation.<\/p>\n<p>Our 25-year partnerships will ensure a high-quality care offer for the children. Among those present were<strong> high-ranking representatives of the Diocese of Parakou, partner organisations<\/strong> and the <strong>President of Franziskaner Helfen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>During the ceremony, Partner Manager Diego Arzabe gave a speech on behalf of the <strong>PATRIZIA Foundation<\/strong> in which he emphasised the importance of the project as a <strong>place of protection, hope and future perspectives for the children<\/strong>. After her mother passed away a year ago, she found herself in a very difficult situation. In her region, traditional belief systems and superstitions are still deeply rooted\u2014and children like Bouya are sometimes falsely labeled as \u201cwitches\u201d after family tragedies, socially excluded, or exposed to even greater dangers.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"452\" data-end=\"498\">Bouya\u2019s story could have ended the same way.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"500\" data-end=\"1060\">But instead, her father\u2014prompted by recent awareness campaigns in the region\u2014decided to seek help. He brought her to the PATRIZIA Children\u2019s Home in Parakou, where vulnerable children find protection, psychological support, and a sense of belonging. Run by the Franciscan order, the child protection center has become a safe home for Bouya and many others. Initially traumatized and withdrawn, Bouya gradually opened up. Today, she is considered a role model for other children: a \u201cbig sister\u201d who resolves conflicts, invents games, and encourages her peers.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1062\" data-end=\"1243\">She feels safe, seen, and accepted\u2014and she has new hope: \u201cI have friends, I go to school, and no one hurts me.
