These images show more than just a construction site. They reveal how a new PATRIZIA KinderHaus is taking shape, step by step, in Kazembe, Zambia. We owe this special insight to OpenSpace: the company is providing us with its digital construction documentation technology pro bono for two current KinderHaus projects.
Alongside the new PATRIZIA Akelius Vocational Training Centre in Bhutan, we are using OpenSpace documentation technology to follow the construction of the new building in Zambia. The images in this article were taken in Kazembe, Zambia. There, together with our local partner, the PATRIZIA & Marks Technical Secondary School is being built – a new place for education, care and future opportunities for children and young people.

Making Construction Progress Visible Through Digital Technology
Using a special camera and OpenSpace’s image-based platform, the construction sites are captured and documented digitally at regular intervals. This makes it possible to follow the buildings’ development throughout the entire construction process. The images give us an up-to-date, detailed impression of what has already been built on site and how the KinderHaus is increasingly taking shape.
For the PATRIZIA Foundation, this technology offers several advantages. It is particularly valuable for communicating with our donors: instead of simply reporting on progress, we can make it directly visible and show what their support achieves on the ground.
Sandra von Waldenfels, Head of Donor Relations & Fundraising at the PATRIZIA Foundation, sees great added value in precisely this: “The OpenSpace images are a huge help in our donor communication. We can show our supporters directly what is being built on site and take them along throughout the entire construction process. Before-and-after comparisons are particularly impressive, as they make progress tangible.”

Greater Transparency in Our Collaboration
The digital images are also a valuable addition to our collaboration with local project partners. They allow our team to gain an independent, timely overview of the current state of construction. Individual construction phases and specific questions can then be discussed together in a more targeted way. Diego Arzabe, Project and Partner Management, adds that OpenSpace also helps to better understand the current construction status and to clarify specific issues with partners on site. In his view, this additional insight strengthens collaboration and creates greater transparency throughout the project.
With OpenSpace’s support, we not only gain valuable insights into the PATRIZIA Foundation’s construction projects. Our supporters can also follow the development of the PATRIZIA KinderHaus projects they fund more closely and see transparently how planning and commitment turn into real places of learning.
Jeevan Kalanithi, Co-Founder and CEO of OpenSpace: “We are delighted that our technology can contribute to the realisation of these important projects, while also giving supporters the opportunity to follow progress on site first-hand and see the impact of their commitment.”
Astrid Gabler, Chairwoman of the Board of the PATRIZIA Foundation, thanks OpenSpace for its pro bono support and sees the documentation technology as real added value, both for the Foundation’s philanthropic supporters and for managing the projects in faraway Zambia and Bhutan.
