Secondary Schools Masaka, Uganda
Uganda is one of the poorest countries in the world and one of the least developed. The population is very young (45% under the age of 15). This results in a very high demand for schools. Only 21% of girls and 24% of boys attend secondary school. There is also a high number of dropouts (up to 37%) in secondary schools. One reason for this is that the schools are poorly equipped and parents cannot afford better schools.
A major problem resulting from the lack of quality education is the poor job prospects after school. Many can therefore only find menial jobs and have to live in poverty.
“The aim of the program is to enable young people to either take up formal employment or pursue entrepreneurial activities after completing their training.”

Education for a self-determined life
Improving secondary schools in Uganda is crucial to providing young people with a solid educational foundation. At the same time, vocational preparation in secondary school is an innovative approach to improve career opportunities. These measures not only contribute to individual development, but also strengthen society through well-trained and qualified members. An overarching goal is also to reduce the high school dropout rate.
The aim of the program is to ensure that more young people complete secondary school and are already equipped with basic business and technical skills so that they have significantly more opportunities on the job market, in further education institutions or in self-employment.
Five schools, each with a specific focus, were pre-selected for the innovative overarching development programme.
As a first step, the Secondary School – Bisanje near the town of Masaka will improve and expand its secondary education programme. In addition to the implementation of the practice-oriented vocational preparation programme MoSIP (Model School Integrated Programme), planned measures primarily include an inventory and planning of improvement measures for the buildings and infrastructure. Urgent construction measures to improve the educational infrastructure to ensure minimum standards for teaching and learning conditions are being implemented and sustainable school development is being promoted.
